
Born
and raised in nearby historic Appomattox, he is the
son of the late Henry W. "Billy" Conner and
Betty K. Connor. He graduated high school in 1976 where
he was a 4-year letterman on the high school golf team
and cross country team.
In
1976, he entered Virginia Tech to study business and
play golf. As a freshman, he started several matches
and tournaments. After 2 years at Tech, he transferred
to Lynchburg College to get more playing time. Playing
3 years at Lynchburg, he was part of the team that placed
5th in the NCAA tournament in 1981. He graduated with
a BA in physical education.
As a young amateur he won 17 individual titles that
included club championships, local invitation tournaments,
plus the Lynchburg City Championship.
He turned pro in 1981 as the assistant golf professional
at Winton Country Club under the direction of Billy
McBride, Jr. He finished his apprenticeship at Oakwood
Country Club under Brian Fedder in 1983 before becoming
the first assistant at Countryside Golf Course in Roanoke,
Virginia.
In
1985, he became the Head Golf Professional at Goose
Creek Golf Course in Leesburg, Virginia. After 2 years
he decided to enter private business but returned to
golf two years later due to his desire to get back into
the golf business.
In
1989, a dream was realized when he began working for
Ted Counts in constructing London Downs. Working closely
with architect Russell Breeden and construction superintendent
Ralph Firebaugh, he was in on every aspect of the project
from rough grading to seeding to irrigation. Once the
course was opened in 1991, he became the Head Professional.
He
is married to the former Beverly Ann Carter, and they
have a daughter, Brittany, and a son, Brandon.

The
London Downs golf staff was complemented in October
2005 with the addition of Kevin Wilmouth, former Head
Golf Professional at Falling River Country Club in Appomattox.
Kevin shares duties with Jerry Conner as co-head professional.
He has been in the golf business since 1979 and is a
Class A member of the PGA.
Kevin
graduated from Rustburg High School in 1977 and started
his golf career in 1979. He served his apprenticeship
at Roanoke Country Club, was assistant pro at Countryside
Golf Course, was the head professional at Prince William
Country Club in Manassas, was head professional and
general manager at Montclair Country Club in Dumfries
and served from 1990-2005 as the head professional at
Falling River Country Club in Appomattox.
He
enjoys all aspects of the business, with a special interest
in club fitting irons and drivers, all club repair and
especially enjoys interacting with customers, playing
and not complicating things.

Berenice
grew up in Arlington and McLean, Virginia.
She learned to play golf at the persuasion and encouragement
of her parents, both golfers and played a lot of amateur
tournaments in Virginia and the Washington D.C. area
before moving to Lynchburg 1979 with her husband Brian.
In
1980, Berenice joined the LPGA and she became a Class
A member in 1986. She taught at Poplar Forest from 1982
until London Downs opened in 1991. She has attended
seminars given by Bob Rotella, Manuel De La Torre, Gary
Wiren, DeDe Owens and continues to go to as many seminars
as she can work into her schedule.
Berenice
has 2 children – a son Bill, who won the Virginia
State Junior in 1998 and is an assistant golf professional
in the Atlanta area, and a daughter Edie, who is in
college. Her hobbies are spending time with her children,
playing golf, playing bridge and taking classes.
